Shin-young Kwon, violin, has been a section violinist of the Oregon Symphony since 2004. She has also been a member of the Arnica String Quartet in Portland since 2005. She holds degrees (BM, MM, DM) from the Manhattan School of Music and Indiana University, as a student of Sylvia Rosenberg and Miriam Fried, respectively.
A Seattle native, Emily Cole joined the Oregon Symphony violin section in January 2011. Emily has held concertmaster and principal positions at the National Orchestral Institute and at the International Festival-Institute at Round Top. Emily received her M.M. from the University of North Texas and her B.M. from the University of Texas at Austin. Her primary teachers were Emanuel Borok, Brian Lewis, and Ilkka Talvi.
Jennifer Arnold, viola, is a native of North Royalton, Ohio. She joined the Oregon Symphony viola section in the fall of 2005 after graduating with her B.M. and P.S. degrees from Cleveland Institute of Music as a student of Robert Vernon. She teaches violin, viola, and chamber music at the Community Music Center in SE Portland and is on the faculty of the Sphinx Performance Academy during the summer.
Brazilian cellist Marilyn de Oliveira has been the Assistant Principal Cello of the Oregon Symphony since September 2009. Prior to moving to Portland, Marilyn was a member of the San Antonio Symphony for three seasons as both a section player and acting assistant principal. She holds a B.M. from Indiana University under cellist Emilio Colon and a M.M. from Rice University with Norman Fischer.
